Champions Club at The Retreat golf professionals are happy to offer the following tips to help you enjoy your round on the golf course.

To view the layout of each hole, please visit the Course Tour page.

Hole 1
Par 4:  Black 415 yards | Blue 394 yards | White 365 yards | Red 293 yards
The majestic views start right away with your first tee shot. Keep driver in the bag so you can lay up safely in front of McBride Creek. Your second shot is uphill across the canyon to a wide green surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest. Come ready to play on the first few holes, the views are breathtaking, but you need to stay focused on your shots.

Hole 2
Par 4:  Black 453 yards | Blue 378 yards | White 338 yards | Red 312 yards
This hole requires two well-positioned shots to set you up for that elusive par on the #1 handicap hole. As long as you avoid McBride Creek along the left and take an extra club for your approach shot you can sneak away with a par.

Hole 3
Par 4:  Black 442 yards | Blue 426 yards | White 373 yards | Red 307 yards
From the tee you get a spectacular view of Temescal Canyon as you aim down a narrowing fairway. Longer hitters may want to hit a fairway wood to avoid any trouble. Try to bring your second shot high into this shallow green. You can guarantee yourself a two-putt if you are on the proper tier.

Hole 4
Par 3:  Black 201 yards | Blue 180 yards | White 163 yards | Red 110 yards
This beautiful par 3, through sycamores, sumacs and oaks trees, will test your long iron game. This green can be a three-club difference from front to back. Make your club selection carefully.

Hole 5
Par 4:  Black 429 yards | Blue 404 yards | White 380 yards | Red 276 yards
This par 4 plays slightly downhill on your tee shot and back uphill for your second. This hole features a nice dogleg back to the right and the green is much bigger than it looks from the fairway, although it is not very deep.

Hole 6
Par 3:  Black 162 yards | Blue 129 yards | White 112 yards | Red 98 yards
This short par 3 is one of the best 360-degree views on the course in addition to offering a great birdie chance. If you have lost a few shots to par early in the round, go a club or two less than the yardage and you have an opportunity to get one back as you look down on the Temescal Valley.

Hole 7
Par 5:  Black 561 yards | Blue 542 yards | White 501 yards | Red 462 yards
Risk versus reward and a green that is reachable in two for the really big hitters. Don't carve too much off this fairway; the wind will be slightly in your face and from the left. If you choose to play a tee shot that is aggressive, the corner is about 280 yards out. Finish with a long green that is guarded by the largest lake on the course.

Hole 8
Par 4:  Black 354 yards | Blue 325 yards | White 295 yards | Red 266 yards
If you are feeling good, you can carry the two bunkers on the left side and one to the right of this fairway that sit about 250 yards out. You will only have sand wedge left into an uphill green that has three tiers.

Hole 9
Par 4:  Black 436 yards | Blue 393 yards | White 348 yards | Red 342 yards
Even though this dogleg right is a par 4 on the scorecard, there are going to be days when bogey will feel like a good score. Keep your tee shot out of the dry creek bed that runs along the left side of the fairway, but remember the closer you are, the better the angle you will get into this green. Once you have found the fairway, your second shot is going to play uphill and into the wind, so take an extra club or two to assure a green in regulation.

Hole 10
Par 5:  Black 485 yards | Blue 469 yards | White 453 yards | Red 396 yards
This hole gives you a great chance for a birdie if you keep it straight. A well placed 250-yard shot will leave you about 200 yards from the green and a great chance to get home in two. Start the back nine with a birdie!

Hole 11
Par 4:  Black 338 yards | Blue 304 yards | White 273 yards | Red 252 yards
The tee shot will play downhill and into a slight breeze with a forced carry over McBride Creek. After you avoid the pot bunkers and find the fairway, your second shot will be a short iron to the smallest green on the course. You could have another good chance for a birdie here, but par is also pretty good.

Hole 12
Par 3:  Black 157 yards | Blue 143 yards | White 136 yards | Red 121 yards
You are on the edge of the earth as you stand with your back to the forest and play into this downhill par 3. Hit a club less to offset the downhill and the wind that will come from behind and to the left. It is a long green so check your yardage to get away with a birdie on this picturesque hole.

Hole 13
Par 4:  Black 458 yards | Blue 434 yards | White 412 yards | Red 321 yards
This uphill par 4 will play every yard as you go up the slope and back into the wind. Designed with a generous fairway, it is bordered by the Cleveland National Forest on your left and a hill on the right. Even with the best of tee shots you will be left with a lengthy second shot. If you play this as a short par 5 you might not be disappointed with a 4 or 5.

Hole 14
Par 3:  Black 169 yards | Blue 141 yards | White 120 yards | Red 105 yards
Welcome to the most magnificent view on the course. Take a moment to look around and enjoy the scenery. This hole features water on three sides of the green and a slope on the left. You are hitting downhill, so make sure you have the right club to have a chance at par.

Hole 15
Par 4:  Black 326 yards | Blue 281 yards | White 251 yards | Red 208 yards
Get another stroke back with this downwind, reachable par 4. Even if you are unable to drive this green you will still be left with a sand wedge and a great chance for birdie.

Hole 16
Par 4:  Black 443 yards | Blue 403 yards | White 377 yards | Red 333 yards
Take out the driver and give yourself a short iron into this par 4. It plays shorter than the yardage as the elevation drops 80 feet from tee to green, and gives you a wonderful view of the entire layout of the valley. A dry creek bed guards the right side of this fairway and will catch any off-line shots. An unguarded green will challenge you to hit onto the right level.

Hole 17
Par 5:  Black 523 yards | Blue 508 yards | White 489 yards | Red 452 yards
Here we go with the last par 5 in your round and a great chance to get a birdie before heading to the home hole. Some players can carry the well-placed bunker on the right side and leave an iron into the green. Miss to the left and you still have a great chance of going for it in two and getting out under par. The green is guarded by water in front and also in back. Two good shots and you might even have a short putt for eagle.

Hole 18
Par 4:
  Black 393 yards | Blue 360 yards | White 319 yards | Red 319 yards
Well you have made it! As you look up the fairway and see the beautiful clubhouse in the background, do not forget you still need to stay focused for a few more shots. It will play longer than you think; going uphill and into the wind. Make sure to take an extra club for your second shot and do not get nervous from the gallery on the clubhouse patio watching over your par putt.
